Green Smoothies

Green Smoothies |
One day at work, I was roaming the halls with a batch of Swiss chard that a co-worker had just given me when another co-worker asked me what I was going to do with the Swiss chard. Of course, we normally saute it which is what I told her. She suggested I use it to make green smoothies. She said all you need is a blender, some fruit and some greens. We didn't even have a blender. So we went to Target and bought a blender (pictured below). She told me about all the great health benefits that drinking at least one green smoothie a day had. She said her doctor had suggested it because she was having some issues with menopause. So we've been making them every once in awhile. She suggests three parts fruit to one part greens. You can use kale, spinach, Swiss chard, bok choy, collard greens, etc. We use the stalks and leaves too. She also suggested using at least one banana each time as it takes the bite out of the greens. We've made them with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. Doug usually just adds one stalk of the green though. Below I'm posting some links with recipes for you to look at.

You don't have to buy an expensive blender to do this. The blender we bought was only $29 at Target.
