Can I eat out and still eat healthy? Eating our way through Disneyland

Monte Cristo Sandwich
We'd like to explore some options for eating out once in awhile. We have annual passes to Disneyland and California Adventure. My son tells me that having gone 26 in the last year that we should have seen and done everything by now. I'm sure a lot of people have the impression that Disneyland and California Adventure would not have healthy eating options. And years ago they didn't. But if you've been in the last couple of years you've probably discovered those options too. There's a couple of places we'd like to recommend should you find yourself at one of these parks.

  • Ariel's Grotto - Located in California Adventure Park - This can be pricey but you have several healthy eating options, the portions are huge and the food is excellent. Plus if you go at dinner time they will offer you excellent viewing passes to see The World Of Color.
  • Cafe Orleans - Location: Disneyland - Even though they have some healthy eating options here I highly recommend that anyone eating here try the Monte Cristo Sandwich. Monte Cristo Sandwich - Sliced Turkey, Ham, and Swiss fried in a light batter and served with Berry Purée dusted with Powdered Sugar. Three-Cheese Monte Cristo - Swiss, Mozzarella, and Double Crème Brie fried in a light batter and served with Berry Purée dusted with Powdered Sugar. I've posted a photo above. Their sweet potato fries and their garlic fries are excellent. They also have an excellent salmon sandwich too. Café Orleans Salmon Sandwich Pan-seared Atlantic Salmon with fresh Cucumber-Tomato Relish, Bacon, and our Café Rémoulade served on a Multigrain Roll with seasoned Sweet Potato Fries. Here's the link to their menu:  http://adisneyland.disney.go.com/media/dlr_v0200/en_US/parks/dining/menus/CafeOrleansAllDayMenu_0811.pdf
  • Carnation Cafe - Located on Main Street in Disneyland. It's closed now for remodeling, but when it opens back up, they have some good options too.
  • Hungry Bear Restaurant - Located in Disneyland. They have a fried green tomato sandwich that I love.
  • Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe - Located at the end of Main Street as you head into Frontier Land. They have some good options too. They also have the best coffee and speciality coffee drinks.
  • Tiki Juice Bar - Located in Disneyland. They have fresh Dole pineapple juice, pineapple floats, pineapple ice cream and pineapple spears.
  • Pacific Wharf Cafe - Located in California Adventure - They have a sour dough factory tour too. They have some great soups and salads served in the bread bowls and sandwiches served on sour dough bread too.
  • Plaza Inn - Located in Disneyland - has a great salad station where you tell them what you want in your salad and they make it right in front of you. Doug loves their fried chicken. (At least it's chicken and not red meat.)
  • La Brea Bakery Cafe - Located in Downtown Disney - These are located throughout Orange County as well. They have some great healthy eating choices.
  • Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria - Located in Downtown Disney - They have some good healthy eating choices.
There are a lot more places too. But we haven't eaten our way through Disney yet. So we'll post more as we try more places.
